Restore Lubbock: July 2009

Great News - Jessica Armstrong has gotten us a show at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts! Friday August 7th is the opening date. Come see us on the First Friday Art trail from 6-9!

About Us

We are a group of people who wish to promote, through art, the restoration/renovation of the Lubbock Post Office and Federal Building. Built in 1932, the LPO&FB was officially recognized and listed in the National Registry of Historic Places in 1995.

There has been a lot of talk recently about revitalizing the downtown area. The city has a lot of great ideas as outlined in this list of goals from 2004 on the city planning website.

Their first attempt - a Visitor’s Information Center - has created a lot of controversy. People take sides, everyone has an opinion, a better idea, etc. Some positions are based on fact, some on hope, but I’d like to think we all want the same thing – to be proud of the place we call home. Proud of its heritage and proud of what it’s become. A place our children will be proud to call home in the future. I feel we should honor our past, and the people who first chose to build a life on the South Plains, by preserving, protecting and promoting what they left behind. We need to show some love for the former Lubbock Post Office and Federal Courthouse Building.

We will have a group exhibit of our art centered around this wonderful building opening on Oct 3, 2008 for the First Friday Art Trail at Tornado Gallery in Lubbock, TX.
